ANNUAL OUTREACH

UZWELO’S ANNUAL OUTREACHES

Sharing time with staff and new mothers and clothes for babies are acts of generosity and kindness our children and staff enjoy undertaking.

What a privileged to visit the elderly and bring laughter and eats to brighten their days.

KEEPING GIRLS AT SCHOOL

KEEPING GIRLS AT SCHOOL

There are 7 000 000 girls in South Africa between the ages of 13 and 19. Statistics show that 4 000 000 of these girls do not have regular access to sanitary products. The lack of access to sanitary wear and adequate sanitation facilities can affect a girl’s attendance at school by 25% per year.

Ms Karen Nieuwenhuizen and Riana Brits addressed this need of girls residing in rural areas in the Mkhondo area. Funds for re-usable, washable sanitary ware are raised through community involvement such as fun runs.

They also aim to empower girls to reach their full potential by being able to stay in school and finish their education through the educational programme. Close to 300 girls from the Uzwelo projects have benefitted from this initiative.

GRADUATION

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” - William Butler Yeats

Graduating from pre-school is a special occasion for the little. A child's early years are the foundation for his or her future development, providing a strong base for lifelong learning and learning abilities, including cognitive and social development.

Thank you to patient and loving teachers for creating an environment at the ECD centres that enhance growth and development.
