FOOD PARCELS
In an attempt to alleviate poverty food parcels are provided to families in desperate need in remote rural areas. UROC child and youth care workers assist families in obtaining legal documentation that will ensure access to government grants and pensions.
FEEDING SCHEME
“If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger.” Buzz Aldrin
During school holidays UROC provides one meal per day as school feeding schemes are not in operation during these periods. Churches, businesses and community members ensure that holidays are also happy times. Community members volunteer their time and assist with the cooking.
FOOD GARDENS
UROC promotes health and aims at establishing food gardens to ease poverty too. Food gardens growing a diverse range of foods are a direct and effective way to enhance food availability and access. The Department of Agriculture has played a role in providing seeds/ seedlings and training to families and communities.
Communal vegetable gardens in communities assist disadvantaged families. Feeding schemes operating in school holidays receive fresh vegetables to add to the menu.
